Trip to Florida - Day Twenty Six - Tuesday, March 20, 2018for a - Carrabelle

When you are at a place for a month it's not likely that everyday is going to be one that is packed with excitement.  Today was one of those days in that the weather was "iffy" as high winds and tornadoes were in the surrounding areas but in the end all the high wind did was blow out the clouds and made it a great day for a walk.  No rain.  In fact thankfully we've had very little rain.  Our plan was to walk down to Carrabelle Junction restaurant for lunch.  The place has good food and a good vibe.  The owner is a former hippy from San Francisco who parlayed his once dumpy coffee shop into a real estate boondoggle and took his millions and returned to Florida.  His shop is always hopping.  After lunch we started our walk and didn't get too far when we ran into another "character."  As we were walking by his business he shouted out to us and we engaged him in conversation.  He just bought an empty strip mall and was happy to share with us his grand plans.  He also shared some of his other land holdings.  He tried to sell us on Florida but although a nice place to visit for a winter month we're not sure about the heat of the summers or the distance from family and friends.  But as time goes by one never knows.  We do like the laid back feel of the Panhandle and the lack the crowds one finds on the gulf and Atlantic coast.  Anyways, after our chat with Joe we continue our walk to our intended destination - the segregated black cemetery of Carrabelle.  It offered an interesting historical perspective of this area.  As we read the tombstones we were struck by how many young passed on, except for one lady who passed away at 103. The cemetery dates from the 1860's to the present day with many WWII veterans laid to rest. After spending a respectful half hour we headed home stopping at "C-Quarters Marina for our $2.00 beer and a few minutes of relaxation on the glider swing. Afterwards off to the IGA for a few items.  While not a typical vacation day, it was a comfortable day.
