Trip to Maine and Prince Edward Island - Day 4 -Friday, September 7, 2018 - Cavendish, PEI to Victoria by the Sea

Woke up at 8:30 after a good night's sleep in spite of some pretty heavy winds early last night. You've heard the express "if this van/trailer is a rockin' don't come a knockin' - well it wasn't us it was the wind. After breakfast we walked the beach from the campground to an observation point where we watched the sunset last night. Not sure how far it was but we are definitely over our 10,000 steps today. Today's travels took us to Victoria by the Sea, on the southern coast of PEI - we are camping on the north shore. This was recommended to us by both Sass, our waitress last night, and the couple seated behind us. We saw that he had an F. X. Caprara Harley shirt on and thought they might be from our area but turns out they were locals who had passed through Adams on their travels. Victoria was a picturesque, seaside town with pretty houses, and lots of artists and craft shops. I have to say that all of PEI has the neatest, quaintest houses of any where I can remember being. We had fun going in the shops and bought a couple of paintings and a stained glass fish. The Lobster Barn was suggested so we had a late lunch around 3 of clam chowder and the seafood platter with halibut, clams, scallops and lobster. Love the seafood. We didn't want to return the way we came so we headed back around the water and skirted the city of Charlottetown. Along the way we encountered Port-la-Joye or as the British called it Fort Amherst. There we learned some about the mass deportation of the French and Acadians. I still don't have it all figured out - will definitely have to do some more research on it. From there we stopped in North Rustico where Ron bought a lobster trap and some steamers from a guy just coming in on his boat. Back at camp we read, had some wine, steamers, cheese and crackers. Boy this is the good life.😀
